Honoring the Constitutional Right To a Jury Trial
There are many Judges that get on the bench that just do not want to do the work that it takes to be a good Judge. They get mad at any party who insists on their right to a jury trial. Some even give harsher punishments to people who refuse to accept the State's plea offers.
I will not be that kind of judge.
I respect the Constitutional right to a jury trial and I will not punish people for exercising these rights.Currently, many judges are also using the Covid-19 pandemic to deny this important right to people who are sitting in jail. While the pandemic does present some obstacles, they are not insurmountable. I believe that jury trials can be held safely with a little planning and forethought that will keep the jurors and parties in the courtroom safe.
